About The Department

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition was established in 1997 with the aim of providing higher education for rural students. Our objective is to impart Quality Education in the field of food and nutrition. The department has experienced faculty members. Our work focuses towards nurturing the students in solving the nutritional issues and setbacks faced by the community to forge a society with fitness and finesse.

MISSION

• To offer a professional edge to the students by providing widening horizons and accommodating them in the discipline of Food and Nutrition.
• To prepare the interns to be competent enough and foster a commitment to ongoing development of their hands on practice skills.
• To apply scientific thinking and ethical reasoning in the analysis, synthesis and evaluation of knowledge within the discipline of Food Science, Nutritional Science and Dietetics.

55% marks with any of the following degree courses: Home Science/ Nutrition & Dietetics/Food Science and Nutrition / Food Service Management & Dietetics / Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics with Chemistry or Life Science (Botany, Zoology), Biochemistry/Family & Community Science/Nutrition & Dietetics/Food Science & Quality Control/Food Science & Nutrition/ Nutrition/P.G. Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics/ Biochemistry at ancillary level/Biotech/Chem & Biology/ Food Nutrition & Dietics /B.Sc. Food Technology/Microbiology/ Microbiology with Nanotech/B.Sc. Triple Major (Biotechnology, Chemistry & Zoology)/Nutrition & Dietetics with CA/ B.Sc. Nutrition Food Service Management & Dietetics) B.Voc., (20% students can be admitted with the above said course).

  • FOOD SCIENTISTS
 The food researcher’s job is to research and analyse the nutritional content, discover food sources, and develop ways and techniques to ensure processed food is healthy and safe.

The healthcare industry (also called the medical industry or health economy) is an aggregation and integration of sectors within the economic system that provides goods and services to treat patients with curative, preventive, rehabilitative, and palliative care.

  • MANAGEMENT DIETITIAN
Management dietitians plan food programs. They work in food service settings such as cafeterias, hospitals, prisons, and schools. They may be responsible for buying food and for carrying out other business-related tasks, such as budgeting. Management dietitians may oversee kitchen staff or other dietitians.
 
  • CONSULTANT DIETITIAN
As a consultant dietitian, you are expected to perform advice and assess clients about diet-related matters like cholesterol reduction, weight loss, etc. 
 
  • NUTRITION RESEARCH SCIENTIST
A dietitian contributes to the research team, knowledge of nutrition and disease relationships, nutrient analysis, nutritional evaluation for research projects, anthropometric assessment and clinical evaluation of laboratory values relevant to outcomes.
 
  • COMMUNITY DIETITIAN
Community dietitians are trained to develop programs and promote healthier food choices to the specific groups of people, such as children or senior citizens.

Develop promotional inputs and on time execution by coordination with other departments.

We take immense pride in our legacy of producing winners, with an astonishing tally of 97 gold medals, a tribute to the dedication and prowess of our students. Most of the gold medals got by our department students.
